How it's calculated

Net terms add that many calendar days to the invoice date. EOM terms count from the last day of the invoice's month. With early-payment terms like 2/10 Net 30, the client can take 2% off by paying within 10 days; otherwise the full amount is due in 30.

Questions

What does Net 30 mean?

Payment is due 30 calendar days after the invoice date. An invoice dated March 1 with Net 30 terms is due March 31.

What does 2/10 Net 30 mean?

The client can take a 2% discount by paying within 10 days of the invoice date; otherwise the full amount is due within 30 days.

What does EOM mean on an invoice?

End of month. "Net 30 EOM" means payment is due 30 days after the end of the month the invoice is dated in.

Should I use Net 30 or due on receipt?

Shorter terms get you paid sooner. Many small businesses use due on receipt or Net 15 for smaller jobs and Net 30 for larger clients. Whatever you choose, write the actual due date on the invoice.
