Collection agency fee calculator
Enter the amount owed and the agency's fee to see how much a collection agency keeps and how much you'd get. Collection agencies commonly work on contingency, keeping 25% to 50% of what they recover.
How it's calculated
On contingency, the agency keeps its percentage of whatever it recovers and you get the rest. The comparison shows Casey's collections (20% of what's recovered, nothing if nothing is) and Casey's follow-ups before an invoice gets that far ($5 once per chased invoice).
Questions
How much do collection agencies charge?
Most charge a contingency fee of 25% to 50% of what they collect, with higher rates for older, smaller or harder debts. Some charge a flat fee per account instead.
When should I send an invoice to collections?
Usually after 60 to 90 days past due, once reminders, calls and a final notice haven't worked. The older a debt gets, the less likely it is to be paid.
Is there an alternative to a collection agency?
Following up sooner and more steadily. Most late invoices get paid with reminders in the first weeks; Casey does that follow-up for $5 per invoice, and hands what's still unpaid after 60 days to its collections team for 20% of what's recovered.
